Larnaca

The town is situated by the Mediterranean Sea in the south eastern area of the country and has a modern port complex and industrial base. Larnaca has a population of approximately 70,000 people. Most of the town's attractions are within easy walking distance from each other and Larnaca itself, being in a most convenient location, is only 5 minutes from the International Airport and offers easy access to the rest of the island.

A settlement was first established in the area of Larnaca (Larnaka) in the 13th century BC and was named Kition in the days of the Old Testament. Kition is the birthplace of the philosopher Zeno, founder of the Stoic School . The Mycenaean Greeks fortified the town with cyclopean walls in the 12th century while the Phoenicians founded a powerful kingdom here in the 9th century.
